Odoo 20 Upgrade Checklist
A practical, step-by-step checklist to prepare for and deliver your Odoo 20 migration
without surprises. Work through it roughly in order, and test everything on a copy before you touch
production.
1 Assess where you are
- Record your current Odoo version, edition (Community or Enterprise) and hosting (Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or on-premise).
- List every app and module you actually use.
- Mark which processes are business-critical and must not break.
2 Inventory customizations and integrations
- List every custom module and tweak in your system.
- List all integrations: website, payments, shipping, bank feeds, CRM and any other connected tools.
- Identify third-party apps and confirm their Odoo 20 compatibility.
3 Get your data ready
- Deduplicate master data: customers, products and suppliers.
- Archive records you no longer need.
- Fix known data issues before migrating.
4 Run a test upgrade
- Upgrade a copy of your database, never production first.
- Adapt your custom modules to Odoo 20.
- Load the adapted custom modules into the test database.
5 Test properly (UAT)
- Build test scripts from your real, everyday processes.
- Have actual end users test their daily tasks, not just the project team.
- Log issues, fix them, and retest until the critical path is solid.
6 Plan the cut-over
- Choose a quiet business window, never your busiest period.
- Freeze changes and run the final production upgrade.
- Load final data and verify every critical process before reopening.
7 After go-live
- Provide hands-on support for the first busy days.
- Monitor adoption and fix friction fast.
- Hold a short review and plan your next steps.
Timing note: Odoo 20 is expected to launch at Odoo Experience 2026 in
late September 2026, with general availability in the weeks after. Use this checklist to prepare now,
and do the actual move once the release has settled and your critical apps are confirmed compatible.
