Planning in Odoo: Scheduling Your Team and Resources
Knowing what needs doing is only half of delivery; the other half is knowing who will do it and when. Odoo Planning is where you schedule your people and resources. Continuing the series on Odoo Services and Project, here is planning.
Scheduling made visual
Planning gives you a visual schedule of who is working on what and when. Instead of juggling availability in your head or a spreadsheet, you see the plan laid out, shifts, assignments and resources, and can adjust it easily as things change.
Assign work clearly
You can assign work to the right people for the right periods, so everyone knows what they are expected to do and when. Clear assignments prevent the confusion and double-booking that happen when scheduling lives informally.
Balance the workload
One of Planning’s real benefits is seeing workload across your team. You can spot who is overloaded and who has capacity, and balance the work accordingly. That protects your people from burnout and makes sure capacity is not wasted.
Plan resources, not just people
Planning is not only about staff. It can cover the resources work depends on, so you schedule around what is actually available. That keeps plans realistic rather than optimistic.
Connected to delivery
Because Planning sits in Odoo alongside Project and Timesheets, scheduling connects to the actual work and the time it takes. Plan the work, do the work, track the time, all in one system, so your planning is informed by reality and improves over time.
Practical tips
- Keep the schedule visual and current so everyone can rely on it.
- Assign work clearly, with the right person for the right period.
- Watch workload across the team and rebalance before people burn out.
- Plan around real availability of both people and resources.
My take
Planning turns good intentions into an actual, visible schedule. It answers the who and when that delivery depends on, helps you balance workload fairly, and connects to the rest of your project and time data. For any team juggling multiple pieces of work, that clarity is worth a great deal.
