Odoo 20: The New Features Launching

Every new Odoo version brings a mix of brand-new capabilities and improvements to existing ones. This post focuses on what is genuinely new in Odoo 20, the fresh arrivals, rather than the upgrades to things already there, which I cover separately.

A note on accuracy: as of early September 2026, Odoo 20 has not launched. What follows is based on Odoo’s public roadmap ahead of the launch, and Odoo itself describes its roadmap as a list of things it might do. So treat this as an informed preview; the confirmed feature list comes at the launch.

Agentic AI: the flagship new capability

The standout new feature is the move to agentic AI. Earlier Odoo versions used AI as an assistant, answering questions and helping draft content. Odoo 20 is expected to introduce AI that can actually carry out tasks on its own within your workflows, an AI agent rather than just an AI helper. If it lands as described, this is the most significant addition, because it changes what the software can do for you, not just how it looks.

A redesigned mobile app

Odoo 20 is expected to bring a redesigned mobile application. As more work happens on phones and tablets, a genuinely good mobile experience matters, for approvals on the move, for field staff, for anyone not sat at a desk. A fresh mobile app aimed at making Odoo pleasant and capable on a small screen is a welcome new arrival.

New industry verticals

One of the more interesting themes is dedicated solutions for new industries. Odoo 20 is expected to ship industry-specific packages for areas such as hospitality, construction and others, bringing tailored features for those sectors out of the box. For businesses in those industries, a ready-made vertical means less configuration and a faster start on features built for how they actually work.

Technical additions under the hood

Not all new features are visible on screen. Odoo 20 is expected to include technical additions aimed at speed and scale, such as database improvements for handling larger workloads and better offline functionality. These are the kind of changes you do not see directly but feel as a smoother, faster, more reliable system, especially as your business grows.

What to make of the new features

The through-line of Odoo 20’s new features is intelligence and reach: smarter automation through agentic AI, a better experience on mobile, ready-made solutions for more industries, and stronger foundations underneath. It is less about a long checklist of small additions and more about a few meaningful steps forward.

My take

If the new features land as the roadmap suggests, agentic AI is the one to watch, because it genuinely changes what an ERP can take off your hands. The redesigned mobile app and new industry verticals are practical, valuable additions too. As always, the smart move is to see what is actually confirmed at launch, then decide which of these new capabilities matter for your business before you plan an upgrade around them.
