Odoo Repairs: Managing Repair Jobs End to End

If your business fixes things, whether under warranty, as a service, or on returned goods, repair jobs have their own flow: receive the item, diagnose it, use parts, and return it fixed. Continuing this run through more Odoo apps, here is Repairs.

A record for each repair

The Repairs app gives every repair job its own order: what came in, what is wrong, what is being done, and its status. Instead of repairs tracked on scraps of paper or in someone’s memory, each job is a clear, trackable record from arrival to return.

Parts and stock

Repairs use parts, and those parts come from your inventory. Odoo links repairs to stock, so the components used on a job are consumed from inventory just like any other movement. That keeps your stock accurate and your repair costs real, rather than parts quietly disappearing.

Track the status

A repair moves through stages, received, in progress, done, and Odoo keeps that status visible. Anyone can see where a job stands, which means customers get straight answers and nothing sits forgotten on a bench.

Billing the work

Some repairs are chargeable, others under warranty. Because Repairs sits in Odoo, chargeable work can flow into invoicing, with the parts and labour reflected, so you bill accurately for what was actually done. Warranty jobs are handled without billing the customer, while still tracking the cost.

Connected to the customer

A repair links to the customer and, often, the product they bought. That gives you history: what was repaired, when and why. Over time that is useful both for service and for spotting recurring product issues.

Practical tips

  • Give every repair a tracked order rather than an informal note.
  • Link parts to inventory so stock and repair costs stay accurate.
  • Keep the status current so customers get clear answers.
  • Bill chargeable repairs from the recorded parts and labour.

My take

Repairs turns a fiddly, easy-to-lose process into tracked jobs connected to your stock, customers and billing. You know what is on the bench, what it is costing, and what to charge, and nothing gets forgotten. For any business that fixes things, that structure is a real step up from paper and memory.
